Mould release agents

Disc pad manufacturing using C-393

Coating Technologies Limited new range of mould release agents are used to make accurate moulded parts quickly and easily. Mould release agents improve production times and help to prevent damage to both part and the mould. They can significantly extend the service life of the mould.

The Coating Technologies range of mould release agents are easily applied liquids that will provide a physical barrier between the mould and the component to be moulded. They may offer lubricating action and surface slip or may act as a sacrificial coating such as a layer of Polyvinyl alcohol applied during glass fibre reinforced plastic moulding.

Mould release agents can help improve the appearance of moulded parts and can impart a gloss or semi-gloss finish.

Typical End Uses

  • Wax based release agents for the friction Industry
  • Silicon based release agents for urethane and rubber moulded parts.
  • PVA based sacrificial coatings as used in the composite (e.g. Glass fibre reinforced plastics) industry.
  • Polyol based release agents for the tyre industry.
  1. Wax based release agents:

CR-392 and CR-3933 are emulsions of high melting point wax in water. They are very effective in releasing compressed friction pads (above right) and other phenolic mouldings. It is very cost effective as it can be diluted by more than 20:1 with water.

  1. Silicon based release agents:

The CTS Silicon based release agents utilise the slip of a silicone oil and the film forming of a silicon resin to make very effective release agents.

These are particularly effective when moulding/ demoulding PU and rubber elastomers. Not only are they very effective aids to demoulding but they can also improve the visual appearance of the parts.

CR 910 and the higher silicon content 905

Are liquids for brush or spray application.

CR 1812E and CR 1711E are the aerosol
equivalents.

  • Polyol based release agents for the tyre industry

CR 505 is a specially formulated resin-based lubricant and was developed with a major tyre manufacturer.

The main application is to release the uncured tyre rubber from the flanges on the tyre-building machine.

CR 505 is free from silicone and so will not interfere with adhesion to the bead wire or tread during building.

C-145 PVA based mould release agent is widely used in the composite moulding industry. The combination of water and isopropanol solvent makes for rapid application and drying so that multiple layers (typically three) of the release agent can be quickly and easily applied.
